Steampunk technique book page#4 embossing folders

Hi there, design elf Katrina here with the penultimate page in my Steampunk technique book. This time using your embossing folders in a slightly different way.

Here is how I achieved my look

Place your embossing folder, I used the Tim Holtz Pocket watch and Steampunk texture fade for this page but any embossing folder will do, place under your chosen Bo Bunny Time piece paper.

Using a wax crayon, I used 2 different colours, rub over the paper and you will pick up the texture pattern from the embossing folder underneath

Then add your ephemera. I used a scrap of music paper and gramophone paper but you could do this technique on any card or scrapbook page.

Steampunk page #2 embossing

Hi there, Katrina the design elf here with the second of my Steampunk pages. I like different sized pages in my books to add interest and to use up those scraps too !!

  This page also uses the Tim Holtz edge dies and embossing plates to give it a steampunk look. Here is how I made my page....

First I cut a piece of Grunge board and using the Tim Holtz on the edge die Steampunk. Then using the Tea dye distress I inked the edges on both back and front. This didn't really give me the look I wanted so I .....

Reached for the Imagination craft mica powders velvet dream. I took a tiny amount of powder and added a drop of water and mixed it into a paint. I then painted the edges front and back.

I then cut a piece of the Bo Bunny Timepiece paper and ran then through the Watch and Steampunk texture fade and then rubbed some of the Tea Dye distress ink onto the embossed paper using the application tool.

 Here are my finished pages. Of course you can use any images or photos you want too, just have some fun with it.

Alice in Wonderland

Hello, Katrina here. I have been re visiting my love of stamping using the lovely IndigoBlu Alice stamp plates. I especially likes the original art from the book. I was also playing with the Cosmic shimmer chalk mists, if you are not a fan of the sparkle you get with the mica sprays or want a different look then give these a go, I love them and they went so well with the stamps.

Tea Party Alice Card

I used -
* Cosmic Shimmer Chalk Mist Pastel Blue
* Cosmic Shimmer Chalk Mist Pastel Pink
* Cosmic Shimmer Chalk Mist Pastel Purple
* 25 Craft UK A5 Card Blanks White
* IndigoBlu Rubber Stamp Plate Alice 2

1. Use the chalk mists to spray a piece of A4 card, dry in between colours.
2. Stamp the image of Alice at the Tea party and Alice in Wonderland onto white card, cut out and mat onto black card, cut a small border. Cut or punch your border top and bottom of a mat cut from your misted card. Mount Alice onto it.
3. Cover the front of your card with the pages of your book and ink around the edges. Tie a piece of the Bakers twine around the card.
4. Cut out the Alice in Wonderland and ink around the edges.
5. Use 3D tape to attach the main image to the card and add some flowers and the Alice in wonderland, add gems to the flowers middles and you are done!

 

Sorry it's late card

My next card is a little sorry its late card. We all miss a birthday now and again and this little card is just so cute, I'm sure they will forgive you!!

I used -
* Part of the card you misted for the first card
* IndigoBlu Rubber Stamp Plate Alice 2
* Artistic Stamper Time & Keys A5 Plate
* Plain white card

1. Cut your card blank from the card and stamp the Alice Stamp image with the watch and some clock images from the time stamp plate along with the late saying and cut them all out.
2. Cut a piece of the sprayed card to fit your card and stick down. Ink around the edges.
3. Arrange all the images on the page and once you are happy stick down.
4. Cut sorry from a die cut alphabet or use sticker and your done!

Rabbit tag

 

I just had to use the rabbit image and so made up this little tag.

I used -
* IndigoBlu Rubber Stamp Plate Alice 2
* IndigoBlu Rubber Stamp Plate Alice 1
* Card you misted for the first card
* Bakers twine

1. Cut the misted card into a tag shape
2. Stamp the rabbit and cut him out, stamp curiouser and curiouser and cut out too.
3. Arrange and stick on your tag.

ATC

And lastly I made a little ATC using the Tweedledum and Tweedledee image and the rhyme from the book. Its amazing how far 1 A4 sheet of card will go.

 

All these from just 1 A4 sheet, promise!!

London Card

I have been working with the new Paper Artsy Hot pick plate 1208. They have such great images that it was difficult to decide where to start. Just a small tip for using the photo style images, these or any photo style stamp...s, apply the ink with a brayer and you will get great results. Here is what I used for this card -

To make -
1. Apply Old paper distress in to the white card blank working in towards the middle.
2. Stamp the street names in Frayed Burlap to form a background.
3. Ink up the brayer with fired brick distress ink and roll the ink onto the bus stamp. Stamp onto a piece of white card stock.
4. Cut out the bus and apply some Old paper ink over the top to help blend it in to the background.
5. Arrange the tickets behind the bus and stick them down. Apply 3d foam to the back of the bus and place over the tickets. Stick one of the transport tokens on the front to finish the card.

* Craft UK 6 x 6 Card Blanks Kraft
* A4 Vintage Oriental Calligraphy ( I used a Chinese book page but these papers are perfect )
* Replica Chinese Coins Tiny
* Assorted Oriental Ephemera
* Alterations Die Vintage Lace
* Distress ink Fired brick

1. Tear your paper to fit on the front of your card. Apply fired brick distress ink to the edges of the paper and card and stick the paper down
2.Use the vintage lace die to cut a piece of lace using a scrap from the cut off of the woodcut card or any gold card
3. In my Oriental Ephemera pack I had the red envelope and the playing card, which I cut in half, and the little folded kimono. What ever you have in yours set them out on the front of the card in a pleasing pattern adding a piece of the vintage lace you have just cut and one of the little coins. Once you are pleased with it stick it all down and admire the finished card.

You will need -

     Plastic skull - mine was from Wilkinsons for 50p

     Silkies by Imagination crafts - I used Pearl satin and Onyx satin

     Imaginations Crafts Magi bond

     Black Stickles

     Craft sheet

 1. Tear any borders off of your book pages and keep to use on later projects, I love to stamp onto them to give you an instant vintage look. Tear them into strips from top to bottom and crumple them a little. This helps them mould to the shape of the skull.

 2. Apply PVA glue to the back of each strip in turn making sure they are covered edge to edge and cover the whole skull. While the glue is still wet press it into the features of the skull.

 3. Cover the skull with Pearl Satin Silkies. I found the easiest, perhaps not the cleanest way, was to paint some onto the craft sheet and then using my finger rub it onto the skull. Once you have covered it completely highlight his features using the Onyx Satin Silkies. You only need a tiny amount so again I found it easier to control to use my finger.

 4. Add black Stickles for his eyes and you have your own spooky altered skull!!   Happy Halloween!!

* Hougie board - optional



1. Cut a piece of card 8x5" and sore a line at 2" and 6" so you get 3 panels, 2" 4" 2".

2. Apply PVA glue to the middle panel and stick one of the Joss papers. Don't worry if it goes over into the other panels, it is so thin it won't show. Cover the side panels in the same way.

3. Cut out one of the wood cut images and glue it to the left hand panel. Cut the images from the chopstick wrapper and glue them down the right panel.

4. Cut a length using the Alterations vintage lace die from a co-ordinating paper or card ( I used the wrapper from my Chocolate bar I was eating at the time, well you have to have chocolate when you are crafting and I'll use anything in my projects!! ) and glue it to the top and bottom of the middle panel.

5. Paint the Eco Green pure gold paint round the edges of your triptych and around the images from the chopstick wrapper to help them blend in.

6. Glue a Chinese coin the top of the left panel and bottom of the right one using silicone glue, leave to dry and you are finished!

Bingo Notebook

Bingo notebook

Take one of the Bingo cards from the Vintage Bingo card pack and fold in half.

Paint the other side with Eco Green paint.

Cut some copy paper slightly smaller than the Bingo card and fold in half to make your pages.

Clamp your pages and cover together with a peg so they can't move, take a bradel or paper needle and carefully make a hole in the middle of your fold through the pages and cover.

Make 2 more holes, 1 half way between the middle hole and the top and the second between the middle hole and the bottom.

Take some strong thread and stitch your pages in.

Choose a large headed brad and attach to the front, use white glue to attach a wooden bingo number. Punch a small hole in the back cover and thread a small piece of elastic through, knot into a loop.

This needs to be long enough to go around the bingo number to keep the little book closed.

Use one of the Tim Holtz die cut alterations alphabets to add BINGO onto your notebook.

Katrina Rollings

Hello, my name is Katrina Rollings. I live with my hubby Andrew and 3 very tame cockatiels ( well 2 very tame, the other we are working on ) in Bristol.

I have been crafting most of my life, my Mum teaching me tapestry and sewing, then went on to crosstitch. I bought my first rubber stamp at a stitching fair over 20 years ago and was hooked. That lead me to scrapbooking and then about 6 years ago a friend introduced me to ATCs and my love of mixed media was born. I love the freedom that Mixed Media gives you. To be able to play with paint, ink, paper, anything you fancy really, even that ticket stub you picked up on the way home!! My favourite images and embellishments have to be vintage ones, so I am so excited to become a member of Sarah-Jane's design team. I am so looking forward to working with her fantastic products!

When I am not in my craft room I love to read, bake, watch old films or be out with my camera, Andrew and I are both keen photographers. I also look forward to our walking holidays in Austria, of course a journal, pack of blank ATCs, scissors, glue, pens, stamps and ink get snuck into the suitcase!!

How to make it -

Cut out the 2 large travel tags from the New York collage sheet. Distress the cover tags and the 3 manila tags, front and back, with the distressing ink. Cut out all the images from the 2 collage sheets and use them as well as some strips of old book paper and other ephemera to collage both sides of the tags and inside of the front and back covers. To make the slide mount, distress with ink, stamp with a script stamp and leave to dry. Tear a square of book paper, add an old bus ticket and distress with ink. Stick to middle of slide mount and stick together, punch a hole in the top and add to book with a safety pin. Tie everything together with string to finish off.
